This is just for general education majors this is advice for you for your years as you go through your education program.

Education major Tips

Here are tips for you if you’re an education major:

1. Tip one

To see as many types of schools as you can there are so many different types of schools there are private-public charter boarding schools Montessori schools project-based learning schools Kipp schools delicious goes on and on and on.

There are so many types of schools that call for certain types of teachers and you need to know what type of a school that you’re gonna want to teach at if you have the type of teacher that wants your students to learn through their own experiences and through hands-on learning

You’re gonna want to go to a project-based school if you’re the type of teacher that likes a very standardized rigorous set in stone curriculum you’re gonna want to go to maybe a private school where the curriculum is standardized across all classes you have to be able to see these different types of schools so that you know where you’re gonna want to go when you are a real teacher

2. Tip two

To observe as many as you can as I kind of alluded to in my first tip.

There are so many types of Teachers:

  • There’s a type of teacher that likes to have sort of controlled chaos in their room and kind of lets the students decide what they’re going to do that day then.
  •  There’s the teacher who comes in with the notes and the lesson plans and they are kind of in charge and choosing.

what goes on you’re experienced at this moment is so small because you haven’t seen that many schools your experience is basically drawing off of what happened to you in your school and you think that every other school works that way and that does not fault that’s the way it is for everybody who goes into education.

You can have much experience because you’ve only been educated yourself you haven’t been able to see a bunch of different types of schools so when you go and see all these different types of teachers you realize why this whole ought always to do this and you’re able to pick and choose what you like about certain types of teachers to make yourself as a teacher.

3. Tip three

Something that I did and it is to keep a Google Doc called teacher to news or something along those lines

It doesn’t have to be a Google Doc it can be a journal it’s basically something that you keep ahold of three or four years.

And as you do all of your practicum and you observe all of your teachers and all of your different classrooms and schools you keep a list of all the things that you want to do once you have your own classroom I still have mine and there are so many awesome ideas on it and classroom management strategies and warm-up ideas and exciting ideas and organizational tricks it’s so awesome that you have the opportunity to see all these different teachers and schools and while you’re there make a note of the things that you want to do and keep track of it through your years in your program.

4. Tip  four

Is to make a Twitter so much professional development goes on Twitter every single day every single night there are Twitter chats where educators come together and through a certain hashtag, they discuss certain topics about education you can learn so many awesome things for these Twitter chats from teachers all over the world.

Not only are the Twitter chats awesome and just following cool education the Twitter accounts is awesome but also you’re building up your resume in a sense when you’re tweeting about the things that you’re doing in your student teaching or the things that you’re observing in your practicum or just tweeting articles about education put your Twitter on your resume and somebody pulls up your Twitter and they see wow this person is really involved in education and interested in education major.

It’s great it’s a great way to advertise how invested you are in education how awesome of a teacher you are going to definitely get on Twitter.

5. Tip  five

Ask every question that comes to mind to your professor to your cooperating teachers the people in your practicum and to make note of the answer because once you get into your own classroom you realize that you’re calling the shots and there’s nobody you can really turn to and say hey how do I do this because they’ll set you it’s your classroom you do what you feel do what you feel is best don’t be afraid to ask the silly questions because before you know it you’re gonna be in charge of 30 kids and you’re gonna wish you had asked those questions.

6. Tip six

Stay in touch with every single school that you

go to get the emails and the phone numbers of every teacher that you watch every school that you visit every professor that you have the school that you went to when you were a kid and keep in touch with those people because when you’re looking for jobs it’s going to be fabulous to have those connections to get your foot in the door at those schools and my final tip is to do explicit research on classroom management strategies and then observe teachers who use each one of those strategies.

You don’t realize that there is like so much research on classroom management in so many different styles with names that can be used but there are and let me tell you cluster management is the keystone to successful teaching who could have the most vibrant personality be extremely knowledgeable have incredible lessons but if classroom management isn’t there you’re done it’s everything that’s truly everything it is like oxygen it is necessary and it’s imperative that you know the classroom management style that you are going to use when you’re a teacher so do as much research as you can on it during your education program and observe teachers that are using each one of those strategies and see what ones actually work because a lot of them .

make it so thank you.
